The Town of Front Royal is seeking candidates for Town Engineer.  This position is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing and reviewing professional engineering work in the design, construction, and maintenance of public works, streets and street improvements, sidewalks, sewer systems and drainage structures; supervising engineering field work, survey work and drafting work in connection with the design and construction of streets and street improvements; compiles estimates, contract provisions and specifications. This position will report to the Town Manager.  The Town Engineer will coordinate work with other departments and the Town Manager as well as maintaining records and preparing reports.


 Directs the investigation, develop and design of a variety of engineering and architectural projects.


 Gives technical engineering and architectural advice to the Town Manager and directors and staff of other  departments.


 Assists in projecting a broad plan of public works improvement.


Presents the Town’s position and policies to other governmental agencies, private firms and the general public on certain engineering and architectural matters.


Education: Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.


Experience:  Four to six years in civil engineering work, or an equivalent combination of accepted education and experience that would provide the minimum required knowledge, skills and abilities to carry out the essential functions of the position.


Special Requirements:  Must be registered as a “Professional Engineer” within a negotiated time period of employment with registration in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Successful candidates must submit to and pass a pre-employment, post-offer physical exam and drug screen, paid for by the Town and a criminal records check performed by the Virginia State Police.
